Second Day of North East Festival Transforms Delhi into a Cultural Powerhouse
New Delhi, 16 November, 2024: Day two of the North East Festival 2024 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium was an unforgettable celebration of music, art, and culture, drawing thousands to experience the unique essence of the Northeast. The live music performances stole the spotlight, as the lineup brought the audience to their feet, swaying and singing along to every beat.
The day commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta, Chief Organiser of the North East Festival. It was followed by inspiring addresses from esteemed dignitaries, including Mr. Lalnghinglova Hmar, Hon’ble Minister of State (Ind.), Sports and Skill Development, Government of Mizoram; and Ms. Amrit Raj, DC Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles. Each leader underscored the festival’s role as a bridge between the Northeast and the rest of India, promoting unity and cultural exchange. National Award- winning actor-filmmaker Aimee Baruah was awarded with NEF Achievement Award at the festival for her outstanding contribution towards Indian Cinema.
The stage came alive with an electrifying lineup featuring Arjun, who delivered an unforgettable set, and Dobom Doji Collective, whose fusion of traditional and modern sounds created a magical atmosphere. Fifth Note enthralled the crowd with soulful rhythms, while Fenga featuring Seej infused the venue with high-energy beats that resonated with everyone present. Performances by Meghbalika, Reyamee, and Bbyrth kept the momentum soaring, with each artist offering a distinct flavour. Their powerful performances transformed the stadium into a pulsating arena of joy and cultural pride.
Sharing his thoughts, Mr. Shyamkanu Mahanta said, “Music has an unparalleled ability to connect people, and today’s lineup exemplified the vibrancy of our region. This festival is not only about showcasing the richness of the Northeast but also about creating a shared space where communities come together to celebrate our diversity. From the electrifying performances to the intricate artistry displayed at the stalls, every corner of this event reflects the spirit of collaboration and opportunity that defines the Northeast.”
Beyond the music, the festival offered a glimpse into the vibrant fabric of Northeastern heritage through handloom and handicraft stalls showcasing masterfully crafted textiles, jewellery, and sustainable products. The food zone was brimming with traditional Northeast delights, as well as Delhi’s local joints dishing out street snacks. These elements came together to highlight the diversity and unity of the region’s communities, fostering cross-cultural connections.
The NEF Achievement Awards celebrated notable contributors to the region, while community leaders from Delhi were felicitated for their efforts in preserving and promoting Northeast India’s heritage.
Liza Bhattacharyya, Business Development Manager at One India Organic Utpad Ltd. and a woman entrepreneur from Guwahati, shared her enthusiasm for the Northeast Festival, stating, “The demand for organic fruits and vegetables from the Northeast is immense in Delhi, and this festival is the perfect platform to connect with a larger audience. It’s my first time participating here, and I’ve heard about the impressive footfall it attracts every year. While we already have a store in Delhi, we’re using this opportunity to build excitement around the upcoming launch of our brand ‘One India Organic.’ At our stall, we’re showcasing products like kaji nemu, joha rice, red rice, bhut jolokia, and khar.”
