Bar Council of India Warns Against Fake Notification on Mandatory Minimum Fee Structure for Advocates

New Delhi (February 15, 2025): The Bar Council of India (BCI) has issued a strong warning against the circulation of a fraudulent document falsely attributed to the Council. The fake notification, titled “Official Notification – Mandatory Minimum Fee Structure for Advocates in India,” claims to introduce a mandatory minimum fee structure for lawyers, effective from March 1, 2025.

The BCI has categorically denied issuing any such directive and confirmed that the document is a forgery. The fake notification lacks an official signature, reference numbers, or procedural documentation. The mention of “No Signature Required” is a clear attempt to avoid verification, a common tactic in document forgery.

The Council has condemned the creation and spread of this misleading document, which misuses the name and address of the Bar Council of India to falsely portray legitimacy. It warns that the intention behind this act appears to be to deceive the public and the legal community while tarnishing the reputation of the BCI.

Legal action has been initiated against those responsible, and the BCI has urged the public and media to refrain from sharing or publishing the fraudulent document. The Council reiterated that the dissemination of such false information is a serious criminal offense and will be met with strict legal consequences.

The Bar Council of India remains committed to upholding the integrity and dignity of the legal profession and safeguarding the interests of advocates and the public against misinformation and fraudulent activities.
