Countless pilgrims throng 19th Mega Mayapuri Kanwar Camp

New Delhi News (18/07/2025): Every year during the holy Hindu month of Sawan, millions of ardent devotees of Lord Shiva embark on a sacred journey, walking hundreds of kilometers to collect the holy water of the Ganges from spiritual destinations such as Haridwar, Gaumukh, Gangotri, Ajgaibinath Temple (Sultanganj), and Bhagalpur in Bihar. The sacred water is then carried—balanced in containers tied to either end of a bamboo pole on their shoulders—to revered Shiva temples such as Baidyanath Dham (Deoghar), Augharnath (Meerut), Pura Mahadeva (Baghpat), and Kashi Vishwanath (Varanasi).

To support this extraordinary spiritual endeavor, numerous camps are established across the country offering langar prasad, medical aid, clothing, and shelter to the Kanwar pilgrims.

One such outstanding initiative is the “Mayapuri Vishal Kanwar Shivir”, located at Buddha Jayanti Garden (Gate No. 1) near Dhaula Kuan in New Delhi. Organized by the Mayapuri Kanwar Sangh, this mega camp has been a beacon of selfless service for nearly two decades. Now in its 19th consecutive year, the camp continues to provide all essential facilities to the pilgrims—making the grueling journey a little easier and filled with divine comfort.

Jagdish Agarwal, President of the Mayapuri Kanwar Sangh, shared his sentiments:
“We are a team of like-minded, committed devotees who feel immensely blessed to serve Lord Shiva and his devotees. Having myself experienced the Kanwar pilgrimage, I deeply understand the physical and emotional toll it takes. Our mission has always been to ease that journey with whatever little support we can provide—be it food, rest, water proof tents, medical staff, or encouragement. Devotional programs by renowned singers are organized at the Camp, enhancing the divine atmosphere and uplifting the celebratory spirit.”

Adding to this, Jagdish Bhardwaj, an executive body member of the Sangh, noted:
“Our hearts swell with joy seeing thousands of Kanwar pilgrims take respite at our camp. The 2025 pilgrimage began on 11th July and will culminate on 23rd July, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Shivratri. The Sawan month transforms the country into a celebration of faith and tradition. It reflects the very soul of Sanatan Dharma—where devotion and compassion go hand in hand.”

The Mayapuri Kanwar Sangh is a collective of dedicated individuals, including Rajesh Gupta, Bavindra Garg, Hansraj Goyal, Deepak Gupta, Sanjay Gupta, Suresh Goyal, Sanjay Jain, Dharampal Goyal, Pawan Singla, Satish Jindal, Ashwani Garg, Sanjeev Goyal, and Sumit Agarwal, among others.

Their efforts have also drawn the admiration of dignitaries and cultural leaders. Among the prominent personalities who visited the 19th Mega Kanwar Camp was Madhu Bhatt, Vice President of the Uttarakhand Cultural Literature and Arts Council.

In her address, Madhu Bhatt remarked:
“Our nation’s rich cultural heritage and age-old traditions are a matter of pride. Serving Lord Shiva’s devotees is truly a privilege. Both development and faith are vital to a nation’s progress. When youth remain rooted in tradition, it fosters their holistic growth. The dedication of Mayapuri Kanwar Sangh is deeply commendable. Their care for the elderly, as seen through their initiative ‘Apna Ghar’—an old age home in Ranaji Enclave, Najafgarh, managed by Manav Sewa Charitable Samiti—is equally praiseworthy. Compassion is at the heart of humanity, and this team exemplifies that value. They are indeed role models for society. Kudos to them all.”

As faith continues to guide millions on the Kanwar Yatra each year, initiatives like those of the Mayapuri Kanwar Sangh reaffirm our belief in service, community, and tradition. Their journey is not just a pilgrimage—it is a celebration of humanity.
