Greater Noida (17 September 2025): In a major step towards strengthening India’s renewable energy capacity, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to the RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group for allotment of 100 acres of land in Sector-8D. The land will be used to establish a 3 GW solar cell manufacturing facility and an integrated solar ecosystem hub.
The project, with an estimated investment exceeding ₹3,000 crore, is aimed at positioning Uttar Pradesh as a leader in solar technology and manufacturing. Alongside the large-scale facility, the Group also plans to set up a 60 MW captive solar and energy storage (ESS) plant in the state, reinforcing energy security for the project.
According to officials, the hub will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact (TOPCon) and Perovskite-Tandem solar cells, which have the potential to achieve efficiencies of over 28–30%. These advancements are expected to reduce power generation costs by 10–15% while placing India on the global map for solar research, development, and manufacturing.
A key highlight of the initiative is the creation of an integrated ecosystem, including ancillary units for frames, encapsulants, and other process consumables. This is expected to bring substantial domestic value addition, reducing India’s current heavy reliance on imported solar modules—nearly 90% of which are sourced from overseas.
The project will also have a significant socio-economic impact. It is expected to generate more than 1,200 direct jobs and over 4,000 indirect employment opportunities. In addition, the facility will help develop advanced skill sets relevant not only to the renewable energy sector but also to India’s growing semiconductor industry.
Speaking on the development, YEIDA officials stated that the allotment reflects the state’s commitment to attracting high-value investments in sustainable industries. This initiative will not only contribute to Uttar Pradesh’s industrial growth but will also strengthen India’s long-term energy transition strategy, a senior YEIDA official noted.
The RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group emphasized that the investment is aligned with its vision of driving innovation, promoting self-reliance, and supporting sustainable growth in the country. With the formal LoI now issued, the groundwork for Uttar Pradesh’s next big leap in renewable energy manufacturing is expected to begin soon, setting the stage for the state to become a hub of advanced solar technology in India.
