Moderate rain, strong winds likely across TN for three days; Chennai may get thunder showers
Chennai, June 13 (IANS) The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate rainfall, accompanied by strong winds, across several parts of Tamil Nadu over the next three days, with the Western Ghats and Cauvery delta districts expected to witness the most significant weather activity.
According to the Met Department, an upper-air cyclonic circulation prevailing over the north coastal regions of Tamil Nadu is influencing weather conditions across the state as well as Puducherry and Karaikal.
Under its impact, rainfall activity is expected to continue in many areas for at least another week.
The IMD said isolated places in the Western Ghats districts, the Delta region, and northern interior Tamil Nadu are likely to receive moderate rain along with gusty winds on Friday and Saturday.
Moisture-laden winds and favourable atmospheric conditions are expected to trigger widespread cloud formation and intermittent showers in these regions.
Weather officials said moderate rainfall is also likely to continue on Saturday and Sunday in parts of the Western Ghats, the Delta districts, and southern Tamil Nadu.
The prevailing system is expected to sustain rainfall activity, bringing relatively cooler weather to several parts of the state. Districts along the Western Ghats, including hilly and adjoining areas, are likely to experience occasional spells of rain accompanied by strong surface winds.
Similar conditions are expected in the agriculturally significant Cauvery Delta region, where the rainfall could provide a boost to farming activities ahead of the cultivation season.
The Weather Department has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious, particularly in places prone to waterlogging and temporary disruptions caused by strong winds. People engaged in outdoor activities have also been urged to keep track of weather updates and take necessary precautions during periods of intense rainfall and thunderstorms.
In Chennai, the sky is expected to remain generally cloudy throughout the day. The city may receive moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas. While widespread heavy rainfall is not forecast, isolated showers could affect traffic movement and daily activities in parts of the city.
The IMD said it would continue to closely monitor the evolving weather system and issue updated forecasts and advisories as required. Rainfall activity is expected to persist across several parts of Tamil Nadu in the coming days, bringing relief from recent humid conditions.
