Bhavishya boosts ease of living for pensioners, speeds up pension processing: Govt
New Delhi, June 20 (IANS) The government on Saturday said the Bhavishya pension processing platform has significantly improved the ease of living for central government pensioners by ensuring timely settlement of pension cases, reducing delays and clerical errors, and strengthening end-to-end digital pension services.
According to the government, the digital platform has transformed pension processing over the past 12 years by reducing delays, minimising clerical errors and enabling end-to-end online processing of pension cases.
Bhavishya was introduced by the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions as an integrated online system for pension sanction and payment. The platform was made mandatory for all central civil ministries and departments from January 1, 2017.
At present, 99 ministries and departments covering 1,041 offices and 9,765 Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs) have been onboarded on the platform. As of June 19, 2026, a total of 3,28,116 Pension Payment Orders (PPOs) have been issued through Bhavishya.
The government said the platform has considerably improved efficiency in pension settlement. Around 73 per cent of superannuation pension cases now receive Pension Payment Orders on time, while 69 per cent of family pension cases arising from in-service deaths are settled within six months of the employee’s death. The average time taken for issuance of PPOs has been reduced to 64 days.
Recognising its contribution to digital governance and service delivery, Bhavishya secured the third rank in the National e-Governance Service Delivery Assessment (NeSDA) 2021.
The department also highlighted the implementation of the new simplified pension application Form 6-A on the Bhavishya portal. The single application form, notified on July 16, 2024, introduced amendments to various provisions of the CCS (Pension) Rules, 2021 and enables pension applications through a single e-sign facility.
More than 64,000 retiring government employees have submitted the new Form 6-A through the platform so far. The government said the move has simplified the filing process and represents a major step towards complete digitisation of pension processing.
To ensure seamless post-retirement services, Bhavishya has also been integrated with the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), allowing retiring employees to continue receiving medical benefits from the first day of retirement.
