RG Kar victim’s family moves Sealdah court over letter alleging tampering with viscera samples

Kolkata, July 2 (IANS) The family of the victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case has approached a Sealdah court after receiving a letter alleging that the viscera samples of their daughter were tampered with.

The letter allegedly claims that the tampering took place at the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Belgachia in Kolkata and that three officials of the laboratory were involved.

Following this development, the victim’s family moved the Sealdah court on Thursday and sought verification of the claims.

According to officials aware of the matter, the identity of the sender has not been disclosed by the victim’s family. In the letter addressed to the victim’s father, the sender identified himself as a former employee of the Belgachia Forensic Science Laboratory.

The sender alleged that the viscera samples collected for forensic analysis were tampered with at the State Forensic Science Laboratory in Belgachia before being sent to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory.

The letter further alleged that the act was carried out on the orders of the then Chief Minister or the Trinamool.

The sender also mentioned the names of three officials of the Belgachia laboratory who, according to the letter, were involved in swapping the viscera samples. However, the names have not been published in the media.

The letter further claimed that, during the Trinamool era, these officials had swapped hundreds of viscera samples linked to BJP or CPI-M workers.

It also alleged that substandard materials had been used in forensic tests. The sender requested that the officials concerned be brought to justice immediately.

The victim’s family approached the Sealdah court on Thursday with the letter and informed the court that they had received the same communication twice.

According to them, the first letter arrived on May 16 and the second on May 23.

The victim’s parents requested the court to verify the authenticity of the letter and order an investigation into the allegations contained in it.

According to the victim’s father: “We received a letter in May. We immediately informed the CBI. But they did not take any action. Seven days later, the same letter came again. It says that the viscera report has been distorted. Who did it, on whose orders it was done, everything is written. I have informed the CBI. Now we have come to the court. Surely the CBI will take necessary action.”

The victim’s father also questioned how state Health Secretary Narayan Swarup Nigam continued in his post even after the change of government.

The body of the female doctor was recovered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024. The following day, Civic Volunteer Sanjay Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police in connection with the case. Subsequently, the CBI took over the investigation on the orders of the Calcutta High Court.
