Anant Ambani Steps In to Help Bengal Teenager Suffering from Rare Medical Condition

National News (19 August 2026): A teenage boy from Murshidabad, West Bengal, who has been struggling with an unusual and severe burning sensation across his body, has been airlifted to Mumbai for specialised medical treatment following the intervention of Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani.
The teenager, identified as Iqbal Sheikh, had reportedly been spending several hours submerged in ponds to find relief from the intense burning sensation he experiences whenever he comes out of the water. His unusual condition came to public attention after a video of him sitting in a pond and having breakfast went viral on social media.
According to reports, Iqbal told people around him that he experiences an unbearable burning sensation throughout his body whenever he leaves the water. He has also described the sensation as being so severe that he sometimes feels as though a supernatural force has taken control of him.
Anant Ambani Responds to Family’s Appeal
Iqbal’s parents had earlier sought medical assistance but said they were unable to continue his treatment because of the family’s financial difficulties. After their appeal for help surfaced on social media, Anant Ambani reportedly took note of the teenager’s condition and stepped in to assist the family.
Following his intervention, arrangements were made to airlift Iqbal from West Bengal to Mumbai. He has now been admitted to Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital, where a team of doctors will conduct a detailed assessment of his condition and determine the appropriate course of treatment.
The family had reportedly approached hospitals in the past, but Iqbal’s condition did not improve significantly. The cost of prolonged treatment was also beyond their financial means, prompting his parents to seek wider assistance.

Viral Video Brought Attention to His Condition
The teenager’s unusual habit of remaining in ponds for extended periods attracted considerable attention among local residents. People in his area reportedly said that Iqbal could often be seen in ponds from morning until late at night and would sometimes move from one pond to another.
The viral video brought the case to the attention of medical experts and the wider public. Following the intervention, arrangements were made for Iqbal to receive specialised care in Mumbai.
Doctors Warn Against Prolonged Water Immersion
Medical experts have cautioned that spending several hours continuously submerged in water can itself create serious health complications. Prolonged exposure to water can cause the skin to become excessively soft and pale, potentially weakening the skin barrier and increasing the risk of infections.
Dermatologists have also warned that prolonged water exposure may increase the chances of fungal and bacterial infections. However, doctors have stressed that Iqbal’s underlying medical condition needs to be properly diagnosed before its cause and treatment can be established.
For now, Iqbal is under medical supervision at the Mumbai hospital. Doctors are expected to conduct detailed examinations to understand the cause of the burning sensation and formulate an appropriate treatment plan. The case has also highlighted the importance of timely medical intervention for patients suffering from rare or unexplained conditions, particularly when financial constraints prevent families from accessing prolonged specialised care.
