US Sanctions Four Indian Companies Over Iran Oil Trade; 3 Indian Nationals Also Targeted
TEN NEWS NETWORK
National News (27/08/2026): The United States has imposed sanctions on four India-based companies and three Indian nationals over their alleged involvement in Iran’s petroleum and petrochemical trade, intensifying Washington’s economic pressure on Tehran. The action is part of the US campaign to disrupt Iran’s oil revenues and the international networks that facilitate the movement and sale of Iranian energy products.
Four Indian firms targeted
The companies named by the US are Portease Partners LLP, Sadashiva Overseas Ltd, PP Softtech Pvt Ltd and Prakrutees Infra Impex India Pvt Ltd.
The three Indian nationals designated in the action are Harish Ramachandra Rangi, Indrismiya Ashrafmiya Sheikh and Prashant Garg.
US authorities allege that the companies were involved in transactions connected to Iranian petroleum and petrochemical products.
According to the US, Sadashiva Overseas was linked to Iranian petroleum imports worth about $69 million. PP Softtech and Prakrutees Infra Impex India were each linked to transactions involving approximately $25 million worth of Iranian petroleum products.
Why has the US taken action?
Iran’s oil and petrochemical sectors remain a major focus of US sanctions because Washington considers energy exports an important source of revenue for Tehran. The latest measures are aimed not only at Iranian entities but also at foreign companies and intermediaries that the US says help Iranian energy products enter international markets. By targeting businesses outside Iran, Washington is seeking to make it more difficult for Iranian oil revenues to move through the global trading and financial system.
What could this mean for Indian companies?
The sanctions are not directed against India or the Indian government. They specifically apply to the companies and individuals named by the US.
However, the action could increase the risks for Indian businesses involved in Iran-related trade.
Companies dealing with sanctioned entities may face additional difficulties involving international payments, banking, shipping, insurance and trade financing. Other businesses could also become more cautious about entering transactions connected with Iranian oil or petrochemical products.
Impact on India-Iran trade
India and Iran have maintained commercial and strategic ties for decades. Iran is also important to India’s wider regional connectivity and trade interests.
The latest US action could nevertheless add pressure to bilateral commerce by making some Iran-related transactions more complicated and increasing compliance requirements for Indian companies. The immediate impact will depend on how Indian businesses, banks and trading partners respond to the new restrictions and whether Washington expands its sanctions list further.
The latest action highlights a broader shift in US sanctions policy: Washington is increasingly targeting the international networks that support Iran’s energy trade, rather than limiting sanctions to Iranian companies and institutions.
For Indian businesses, the development serves as a reminder that transactions involving Iranian petroleum can carry significant sanctions-related risks, even when the companies involved are based outside Iran. The US move therefore creates a fresh challenge for India-Iran commercial ties, while stopping short of imposing any blanket sanctions on India itself.
