Greater Noida News (12 September 2026): Students from the Department of Medical Laboratory Science, Sharda University, visited the Government Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), Greater Noida, to gain practical exposure to clinical training, emergency preparedness and laboratory services.

The academic visit was aimed at helping students understand how theoretical concepts taught in the classroom are applied in real-world healthcare settings. The programme also provided them with an opportunity to observe the functioning of specialised training facilities and diagnostic laboratory services at GIMS.

Students Receive Basic Life Support Training

During the visit, the students participated in a Basic Life Support (BLS) training session at the GIMS Skill Lab under the GIMS VIDYA SETU initiative.

The session was conducted by Gopi, Pooja Chaudhary, Parveen Rizvi and Arti Mishra, who introduced the students to essential life-saving procedures and the importance of responding quickly and appropriately during medical emergencies.

The practical training focused on familiarising the students with the fundamentals of emergency response and the role of timely intervention in critical situations.

Visit to Skill Lab and Central Laboratory

The students also toured the GIMS Skill Lab and Central Laboratory under the supervision of Dr. Shivani Kalhan. The visit allowed them to gain a closer understanding of the practical training infrastructure available at the medical institute.

At the Central Laboratory, the students were introduced to the significance of diagnostic laboratory services in healthcare. Laboratory investigations play an important role in supporting clinicians with information required for diagnosis, treatment planning and monitoring of patients.

The exposure was particularly relevant for students pursuing Medical Laboratory Science, as it enabled them to observe the connection between laboratory practices and broader clinical decision-making.

Academic Learning Linked with Healthcare Practice

The students were accompanied by Dr. Ranji from Sharda University during the academic visit.

The programme provided first-hand exposure to several aspects of healthcare delivery, including emergency preparedness, clinical skill development and diagnostic laboratory services. Such visits can help students gain a better understanding of professional responsibilities and the practical environment in which healthcare teams operate.

The interaction also offered an opportunity for students to connect their academic curriculum with actual healthcare practices and develop a broader perspective on the role of clinical and laboratory professionals.

GIMS Focuses on Experiential Learning

GIMS Greater Noida continues to focus on creating opportunities for students and aspiring healthcare professionals to gain practical knowledge alongside their academic education.

Through initiatives such as GIMS VIDYA SETU, the institute is facilitating exposure to skill-based training and healthcare practices. The visit by Sharda University students also reflects the importance of academic collaboration between educational institutions and healthcare organisations in preparing students for professional careers.

The institute said such experiential learning opportunities can help future healthcare professionals strengthen their practical understanding while becoming familiar with the systems, skills and responsibilities involved in patient care.
