Joint search op launched in border areas of Jammu, Kathua districts after abandoned police uniform found

Jammu, Oct 30 (IANS) Joint forces on Friday launched a search operation in the border areas of Kathua and Jammu district after they found an abandoned police uniform in the area, setting off alarm bells among the Indian security forces.

Officials said the joint forces started search operations in border areas of Jammu and Kathua districts after a damaged police uniform was found abandoned.

During a routine search operation, security forces recovered a damaged police uniform, boots and a rucksack from Bana Chak village in Kathua district, prompting a security concern.

The joint forces also conducted search operations along the International Border in Jammu district after the recovery of the uniform.

Joint teams comprising the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Special Operations Group, Indian Army, CRPF and the BSF are taking part in the search operations to find the person whom the uniform belongs to.

Extensive combing and search operations are underway along the International Border sectors in Kathua and Jammu districts, as well as neighbouring areas like Samba. Border security has been further tightened amid heightened vigilance after the alarming discovery.

Security forces have significantly enhanced vigilance and expanded search patterns in response to continuous reports of suspicious movements across the Jammu border grid.

Earlier this month, a large-scale sweep by the J&K Police, Special Operations Group, Army, and CRPF was initiated in the Karnadi forest area of Kathua after villagers reported the presence of suspected individuals near the border.

In August 2026, in the Billawar belt of Kathua, an operation was triggered after unidentified individuals knocked on a villager’s door late at night. The family did not open the door, but discovered the next morning that their stored food had been stolen.

Frequent alerts have been sounded along local water channels like the Ujjah nallah in the Kote Panu and Pundori hamlets due to reported movements of suspected persons navigating riverine gaps.
