The dome looms large as the moon. It is fitting that the Union minister of culture has a room with a view¯overlooking Safdarjung’s Tomb in Delhi. Behind him is a board with a slogan, which has been hammered across the ministry. “No man can make himself a great leader who wants to do everything himself or to get all credit for doing it.” Mahesh Sharma, 54, has been given three significant portfolios. He is minister of state (independent charge) for tourism and culture, and junior minister for civil aviation. “They [the portfolios] have good synergy,” says Sharma. “We would like to take our rich heritage and culture through tourism, giving wings of aviation, to the corners of the world,” he says.
