Three day Open Badminton Championship kicked off in Faridabad

“Winning is important but rather more important is to participate in sports” said Dr. Prashant Bhalla, President Manav Rachna Educational Institution. He was speaking on the occasion of the First Manav Rachna Open Badminton Championship 2015. The three day championship started on Friday 15th May 2015 at Manav Rachna Sports Academy Sector-14, Faridabad. The academy confirming to the international standards have been organising competitions of the various educational institutes of the institution itself. However, with the inaugural of the Open Badminton Championship today, a new era of badminton in the city has started, said Bhalla.

Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President of the group of institutions informed that the response to the championship has been quiet encouraging with 170 players getting registration for participation. On the occasion Sarkar Talwar, the veteran known for his association with the Indian cricket, Mamta Wadhwa Principal Manav Rachna International School Sector-14 and Anand Mehta, president Faridabad District Badminton Association (FDBA) were also present on the occasion.

On the first day of the championship there were four matches in the Open Men’s Singles in which Gunjan, Jagbir, Utkarsh and Lalit won their respective matches quiet comfortably. In the category of Open Men’s doubles match the pair of Nitin Mahlwal and Manish Rawat emerged as winner in their match against Prashu Raj and Lalit.  In another match in this category the winner pair was of Shailesh and Vidit defeating Vikrant and Ayush.

In another category of Open Mixed Doubles Tanuj Sharma and Abhilasha won their sole match defeating Gaurav Bhargav and Muskan.

Another match which was the all girls job in the category of Open Women’s Single Neha Goel Beat Pia Malhotra while in the other match Aditi Beat Aparna.

“It is believed that the championship would not only accelerate the growth of badminton in the city and the NCR as a whole but would also help in placing Faridabad on the map of the sports competitions”, said Anand Mehta.
