New Delhi (29/12/2024): On December 18, 2024, we had the privilege of celebrating a milestone — the 90th birthday of a truly extraordinary Gentleman Sh O.P Sharma at the Delhi Gymkhana Club, New Delhi. An ex-Army Officer, he stands tall as a testament to discipline, integrity, and unwavering strength. A Man of words and principles, his life story is an Inspiration for generations to come.
Invited by his equally remarkable son and my good friend Dear Bipin Sharma, a well-known journalist whose work reflects the values instilled by his father, I found myself in the presence of a family that embodies humility, kindness, and grace. The warmth and hospitality of this family are unmatched, making everyone feel like part of their world.
I had the privilege of meeting Meenakshi Anand, daughter of Sh O.P Sharma to whom goes the credit of organizing the B’day part at the Delhi Gymkhana Club.
Meenakshi’s husband Arjun Anand and brother Bipin Sharma played the role of hosts as they greeted everyone with warmth and personal attention.
The Birthday Man’s grandkids made the evening truly enchanting with Mehak playing some everlasting numbers on the violin and Kabir conveying his loving wishes through a recorded video message. Garima Sharma as the M.C of the event, engaged the guests in a fun frolic quiz on her dad in law during the course of the evening. Aadil, the eldest grandchild took care of the guests as the perfect host.
There were a good number of outstation guests who travelled many miles to celebrate the momentous occasion with their beloved B’day Man. Notable among them being Manju & Subhash Sharma who flew in from Mumbai to be part of the splendid event. Manoj & Sushma Shrivastava came all the way from Jaipur, while grand nephew Rajeev Mehta drove from the City of Taj.
What struck me most was the vibrant energy of the Birthday Hero and his wife Shashi Sharma. Even in their golden years, they radiate enthusiasm, zest for life, and an infectious joy that lights up every room. Their ability to host with such warmth and love is truly inspiring.
Notable among those seen in attendance included the likes of Arun & Komal Anand, C.M Shrivastava, Sanjeev Kassal, Anil Sharma, Siddharth Bhardwaj, Hotelier K.S Kochhar, Pankaj Shrivastava, Ravi & Shashi Sethi, Rakesh Sonkar, Dr Naresh Chawla (Vice President of DMC), Ajay Parashar, Gagan Sharma, Tarun Sharma, Daninder Batra, Michael Cowasjee, Sanjay Giri Goswami (Editor in Chief, Network 10), Gopal Singh, Surveshwar Sarvesh, Siddharth Sen, Pankaj Gera, Prem Bakshi, Tanuj Sethi, Arul Gupta, Advocate Vishesh Issar, Siddharth Khattar, Col. J.K Sharma (Retd.), Abhishek & Abhijit Issar, Mahesh Issar, Gaurav Mishra (News 1 India), Dr Ashish Priyadarshi (Director, Horticulture, South Zone), Reema Sethi, Dr D.K Batra, Shah Faisal (Hindustan Times), Advocate Asutosh Sharma, Hitesh Mahajan, Rajesh Kalra, Rosy Ahluwalia (International Fashion Designer) & Vinod Jha to name a few.
Owing to some previous commitments, Global Pioneer of Ayurveda Shahnaz Husain couldn’t make it to the venue to be with the Sharma family on this special day, but her lovely flowers and sweets made the occasion marvelous.
The guests were gifted a pot of Dracaena plant with the aim of inspiring them towards protecting the Environment and Mother Earth.
This celebration was more than just a Birthday Party; it was an accolade to a life filled with courage, love, and generosity. As I left the event, I couldn’t help, but feel grateful for having witnessed such a splendid gathering, led by a man whose legacy will continue to shine through his family and all those he inspires.
Here’s to 90 incredible years and many more to come! May this family continue to inspire us with their kindness, bond, and love for life.
