AAM AADMI PARTY : Cong owes an explanation to the nation
e Congress party owes an explanation to the country on why it did not implement the union cabinet’s decision of December 26, 2013, to set-up a commission of inquiry to probe the alleged snooping of a young woman by the Narendra Modi’s Gujarat government in 2009.
The Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on Sunday tried to score brownie points in the election season without being aware of the facts that his party’s central government did not even bother to appoint a judge for more than three months after announcing the inquiry commission.
Mr Gandhi it seems is not aware that union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and law minister Kapil Sibal made no efforts to get the probe started in such a serious matter and rendered the much hyped inquiry commission into a non-starter.
The behavior of Mr Shinde and Mr Sibal gives rise to the suspicion that the Congress party had struck a deal with the BJP on the issue. In return of not appointing a judge to probe the snooping allegations, the Congress party appears to have extracted the promise from the BJP of getting its interim budget passed during the last session.
The Congress, which is now talking about the snooping scandal, needs to be reminded that it was due to the brilliant investigative journalism by Ashish Khetan, who is now the Aam Aadmi Party’s candidate from the New Delhi constituency, that the world came to know about what the Modi government was doing in Gujarat.
The least the Congress and its central government could have done was to have got the matter investigated and it failed miserably in doing so. Would Mr Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party show the courage to answer why was the probe scuttled ?
Was it a part of the hidden deal which became public when the Congress voted with the BJP in the Delhi assembly on February 14 to defeat the AAP government’s Janlokpal bill ?
What is Mr Kapil Sibal’s stand on the UPA government’s failure to appoint a judge to probe the snoopgate ? Will he deny that there was deal between the Congress and the BJP on not probing this matter ?
Why is Mr Sibal silent on the issue, when he loves to talk on every issue, particularly those related to Mr Modi ?
The AAP has consistently maintained that the Congress and BJP have a hidden understanding of not attacking each other’s leadership and not exposing the scams of the other party.
