AAP demands probe into the witch-hunt against OROP veteran Wing Commander Sharma
In the most appalling display of fascist use of government machinery, the BJP’s Haryana government has unleashed its police, apparently under directions from its central government on veterans of India’s armed forces, to settle scores for demanding implementation of One Rank One Pension (OROP).
The Aam Aadmi Party strongly condemns the unjustified use of force by Haryana Police against 75-year old retired Wing Commander CK Sharma during night hours, who was dragged out of his South Delhi residence by plain clothed personnel of Haryana Police, assisted by some personnel of Delhi Police.
The version of Haryana Police that the action follows a private complaint against this war veteran is laughable. Can an army veteran who fought two wars for the country be brutally dragged out of his home, particularly when he is facing a precarious medical condition at an advanced age be subjected to such physical and mental torture in front of his family members ?
Wing Commander Sharma was subjected to strong arm tactics physical intimidation and was whisked off to an unknown location.
The AAP views the entire incident as a sheer act of vendetta politics by a central government which wants to teach OROP veterans a lesson for having protested for implementation of an election promise, which was made with much fan fare.
Wing Commander Sharma has been a treasurer of the Indian Ex-Servicemen Movement (IESM) and is a leader of the agitation for One Rank One Pension. The AAP has experienced how the Modi Government uses the Delhi Police & CBI to intimidate its opposition.
We have seen frivolous cases on AAP MLAs and leaders; and high drama arrests of a fervour and strength that is expected for hard core criminals or terrorists.
The fake nationalism of the Modi Government has been exposed totally by this incident.His government had made big proclamations of standing by the army but it is all turning out to be a lie – his government has diluted the OROP and is now witch hunting OROP activists, all of whom are senior veterans who have faced many a battle and risked their lives for the nation.
The AAP will continue to support our veterans’ demand. The party demands an independent inquiry on this harsh arrest and an immediate release of all accused in this seemingly false case which is mischievously being exploited to divide the retired officers.
