NEW DELHI, July 23—Under the leadership of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Shri Ajay Maken, SC Department of the DPCC held a meeting at the Krishna Nagar District to observe the 125thbirth anniversary celebration of Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar, in which thousands of Congress workers, particularly from the Dalit community, participated. Shri Ajay Maken lighted a lamp and garlanded the portrait of Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar to begin the year-long anniversary celebration of Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar.

Besides Shri Ajay Maken, prominent others who participated in the meeting  were National SC Department chairman Shri P.L. Punia, Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar 125th birth anniversary celebration committee chairman of Delhi Ch. Prem Singh, DPCC SC Department chairman Shivram Singh, ex-MLA Jaikishan, Bhram Yadav, Malaram Gangwal, Surendra Kumar, Veer Singh Dhingan, Amrish Gautam, Madan Khorwal, Ch. Ajit, Ishwar Bhagri, Anjana Parcha, Rinku, Anurudh Lal, Dr. Naresh Kumar, Baljor Singh, Varyam Kaur, Naresh Sharma Neetu, Praveen Masih, Sunil Kumar, Rajkumari, Ramesh Pandit, Ompal Dhingan and Rajendra Mewati.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Ajay Maken said the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar had made provisions in the constitution for the uplift and progress of the Dalits, backward communities and the poor people for them to make their mark as equals in society. Shri Ajay Maken said India was the only nation among all the countries in the region who won freedom, which was on the fast track of development and progress. He said this was made possible due to the farsightedness and vision of the architects of the Indian constitution like Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar, as 65 years ago, in 1950, they gave the country such an all-encompassing Constitution that it brought unity in diversity, leaving little scope for dividing the people  on caste and communal lines.

Shri Ajay Maken said Dr Ambedkar gave us the right to freedom of speech, making the constitutional authority supreme above all. He said some neighbouring countries who also won freedom at the same time as India had to face the spectre of instability while India, backed by a strong constitution, thrived by creating unity in diversity.

Making a pointed attack on the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi, Shri Ajay Maken said the AAP was such a turncoat party that it had made alluring promises to the Dalits and the poor to get their votes before the Delhi Assembly elections, but after coming to power, the AAP Government has not done anything for the welfare of the Dalits, the marginalised and the poor people in Delhi, as they were fed only on empty promises. He said Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia made reference to the Dalits not more that two and a half minutes in his two and a half hour-long budget speech in the Delhi Assembly, and in the heavy budget document book, there are not more than two lines about Dalits.

Shri Ajay Maken said these days in FM Radio, after every song, the Kejriwal song is played where he boasts about his “achievements” to bluff the people at a heavy costs to the public money as the Delhi Government was spending crores of rupees for self publicity. It may be recalled that the Delhi Government’s budget for publicity last year was just Rs 24 crore, but  the Kejriwal Government has given a massive hike to the publicity budget to peg it at a whopping Rs 526 crore. Shri Maken said if the AAP Government had cleared the arrears of back wages of the sanitation workers of Delhi, it would have cost the Government only Rs 200 crore and they would not have struck work, as the Kejriwal Government had come to power on the strength of the Dalit votes.

Congratulating the SC Department of the DPCC, Shri Ajay Maken said it was befitting that it held the first function of the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar at the Krishna Nagar District where the sanitation workers had staged a dharna demanding their wages in which Congress vice-president Shri Rahul Gandhi also joined to express his support and solidarity with the striking sanitation workers. And after Shri Rahul Gandhi joined the dharna and backed the demands of the sanitation workers, the Delhi Government quickly took a decision to clear the wages of the sanitation workers in the evening, which gave enough time for the Lt. Governor to issue a notification. Shri Ajay Maken exhorted the Congress workers to keep the portrait of Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar in their houses which will always remind  the great work he had done for the uplift of the Dalits and other marginalised sections of people, to bring them to the mainstream of society, and remind the coming generation about the matchless work of Dr Ambedkar.

National Scheduled Caste Commission chairman Shri P.L.Punia said the Congress workers should spread the teachings of Dr Ambedkar in every rural and city areas of Delhi to make people aware of the fact that it was Dr Ambedkar who made provisions in the Constitution to end discrimination of people on caste and communal lines, to ensure that everyone got social justice, and a platform to come to the mainstream of society.

Ch. Prem Singh, chairman of  Dr Bheemrao Ambedkar 125th birth anniversary celebration committee of Delhi, said the Congress party will celebrate the birth annivary of Dr Ambedkar all over Delhi throughout the year in a befitting manner, which will energize the Dalit community and spread the policies and programmes of the Congress party among the people.
