New Delhi (India), May 1, 2023: The Gujarat president of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Isudan Gadhvi, is facing legal trouble as the Ahmedabad Cyber Crime Branch has registered a case against him for allegedly spreading false information through a tweet.

Gadhvi claimed that the Centre spent Rs. 830 crore of taxpayers’ money on 100 episodes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s radio program “Mann Ki Baat’. The tweet was found to be unsubstantiated and lacking reliable data.

The FIR was registered on April 29 under various IPC sections, including defamation, inciting people to commit an offense against public tranquility, and statements creating enmity or promoting hatred between classes.

Although the tweet has been deleted, the AAP accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of intimidating its leaders through baseless FIRs. In response, the PIB Fact Check Twitter handle clarified that Gadhvi’s claim was “misleading” and that Rs. 8.3 crore was the total cost of advertisements for ‘Mann Ki Baat’ till the mentioned date, not a single episode.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Cyber Crime, JM Yadav, stated that the police are the complainant on behalf of the government and that Gadhvi has not been arrested yet. AAP’s national joint secretary and former Gujarat party chief Gopal Italia defended Gadhvi, stating that the BJP fears AAP and has lodged false FIRs to stop them, but they will continue to fight.
