AAP infringing upon the democratic rights of the opposition : Vijender Gupta
The BJP MLAs Shri O.P. Sharma and Shri Jagdish Pradhan in Delhi assembly led by Shri Vijender Gupta, leader of the BJP Legislative Party met the Hon’ble LG of Delhi, Shri Najeeb Jung at Raj Bhawan to register their complain against the unconstitutional conduct of the Speaker and the ruling party in the Legislative Assembly.
During their meet with the LG, they lodged complaint against the working of the Delhi government, which is trying to infringe upon the constitutional and democratic rights of the opposition and bypass the rule of law for the sake of political grandstanding. Vijender Gupta highlighted various instances, wherein; the Speaker of the House acted in a biased manner and behaved more like an AAP spokesperson than the non-partisan constitutional authority, which he, now, represents.
Vijender Gupta, in the meeting, also raised the issue of the Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly. He said that the Speaker of the House is rule bound to recognize the Leader of the Legislative Party in opposition having greatest numerical strength as the Leader of Opposition. He said that even in a situation, where there is no scope of ambiguity, the ruling party is deliberately trying to create confusion to score political points. The Deputy Chief Minister, Shri Manish Sisodia is giving statements to the media stating that they would offer the LOP if the opposition comes and asks for it, as if, it is something for them to bestow on the opposition. An impression is being created that the ruling party will be doing some profound service to the opposition by offering LOP, something that is already prescribed in the rulebook.
The MLAs urged the LG to take strict cognizance of the matter and remind the ruling party to not sacrifice the constitutional integrity at the altar of narrow political ambitions. They also requested him to intervene into the matter of LOP of Delhi Assembly and enforce the rule of law.
According to Shri Gupta, the ruling party is employing every trick in the book to muzzle the voice of dissent and to create an environment where no counter narrative can escape the walls of the House. A serious blow has been struck to the principles of transparency and accountability in governance by the current dispensation. In a mature democracy, the tyranny of majority cannot be allowed to disregard the rights of the minority. He hoped that after this meet, LG will take necessary steps to put an end to the dictatorial tendencies of the AAP led Delhi government.
Shri Gupta also pointed out that the AAP Government is not allowing media to enter the Secretariat and has appointed a junior officer as the acting Chief Secretary of Delhi. It has also leaked the budget proposals by saying that the target of VAT this year will be 30,000 crore rupees.
