AAP marches to the Parliament over demonetisation

Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia leads a march of thousands of AAP volunteers protesting demonetisation
Dy CM Manish Sisodia, Minister Kapil Mishra detained at Parliament Street police station
The Aam Aadmi Party held a massive demonstration against the Narendra Modi Government’s demonetisation scheme at Jantar Mantar today. Thousands of protesters marched towards the Parliament, led by Dy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia. The Delhi Police, which reports to the Centre, refused to allow the march to proceed beyond the Parliament Street Police Station, and detained several hundred people who took part in the protest. Dy CM Manish Sisodia and Delhi cabinet Minister Kapil Mishra were detained by the police and taken to the Parliament Street police station.

“Production has come to a complete standstill and workers have lost their livelihoods. Traders have no goods to trade in, so markets have shut down. Farmers have no money to resume sowing, and the season has come to an end. The situation is very bad even at the outskirts of Delhi, I shudder to think what is happening in the rural hinterlands!” said Mr Sisodia while addressing the gathering at Jantar Mantar. A letter written by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to people on the issue was also shared by the party during the protest (Attached).

The AAP has been opposing the demonetisation drive right from the beginning because the party believes it is a massive scam, aimed to milk lakhs of crores of funds from the honest citizens of this country, in order to write off old loans and finance the Prime Minister’s large industrialist friends. National Convener Arvind Kejriwal had said during his address to the nation on the issue, “Demonetisation is a scam worth Rs 8 lakh crore rupees, the largest scam ever in India’s history.”

Even as chaos and panic spreads across the country, and the death toll linked to demonetisation goes on increasing, the Government does not seem to have any answers to problems being faced by the people. The aam aadmi has been the worst hit as a result of this move, with the severe cash crunch resulting in shutting down of factories, markets, etc.

The AAP demands a full rollback of the scheme to ensure that no more people die and instant relief is provided to those affected by it. The party does not believe that the Modi Government has the will to take any concrete steps against black money and corruption and that demonetisation is a smoke screen to hide their failures.
