#AAP opposed the TRAI bill, 2014, which was passed by the #LokSabha on Monday
The Aam Aadmi Party opposed the TRAI (amendment) bill, 2014, which was passed by the Lok Sabha on Monday. The party MPs walked out of the House to register their protest against the passage of the bill, which will dilute the impartiality of the telecom regulator in the country
Given below is the speech of the AAP parliamentary group leader Dr Dharam Vira Gandhi in the House on the issue :
“I would like to highlight two or three points regarding this Bill. The BJP and the NDA all along ten years of UPA rule had been opposing the Ordinance route of bringing out various amendments to the laws.
But, the first thing that the BJP did, within three days of its coming to power, was to bring an Ordinance, an unconstitutional route, to appoint a person for the post of the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. We believe that it is their prerogative and we do not object it. What we object is the route. This route is undemocratic.
The Supreme Court clearly mentions that the situation should be extraordinary one. I want to know as to where the extraordinary situation is. They require bringing in a person, whom the Prime Minister chooses to appoint and that too within the three days of the Government. This is my point number one.
My second point is that he was the Chief of TRAI during 2006 to 2009. This period is very much under question because of the biggest scam in the history of Indian politics. Both the Chairmen of TRAI had been indicted by the Supreme Court as well as the CAG during that period only.
So, there are two questions. One is about the method of appointment. Second, the period, during 2006 to 2009, is under question……This is the main point. You have to go back. You cannot leave this thing here without mentioning the period during 2006 to 2009. So, I oppose this Bill.”
