AAP party and BJP should conduct the election of mayor-deputy mayor in a peaceful and democratic manner.- Ch. Anil Kumar

New Delhi, April 18, 2023 – President of Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, Ch. Anil Kumar said that the candidates of Aam Aadmi Party and BJP filed their nominations on the last date today for the election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor in Municipal Corporation of Delhi.  He said that the annual mayor election is a policy process which should be settled in a peaceful manner, as the Congress party had conducted the mayor’s election peacefully while being in power in the corporation and being in opposition.

Ch. Anil Kumar said that after fielding their respective candidates in the Mayor and Deputy Mayor elections, the Aam Aadmi Party and BJP should also ensure that hooliganism, undemocratic and unethical activities do not take place during the elections.  Because the whole nation had seen the riotous situation created by AAP and BJP corporators in the corporation house last time for the mayoral election, but the top leadership of BJP and Aam Aadmi Party did not take any action against their corporators for hooliganism.   He said that the Delhi Congress wants that the elections to dignified posts like mayor and deputy mayor in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi should be held in a peaceful and amicable manner under dignity and democratic process.

Chaudhary Anil Kumar said that in Municipal Corporation of Delhi, where Aam Aadmi Party has once again fielded Oberoi for Mayor and Aale Mohammad Iqbal for Deputy Mayor, BJP has fielded women candidates Shikha Rai and Soni Pandey for both the posts.  Due to the BJP’s political moves Aam Aadmi Party have become nervous despite having an absolute majority.  He said that along with the election of mayor and deputy mayor, the committees of the corporation should also be formed soon, so that the work related to the needs of the public could be done smoothly.
