New Delhi: Delhi Congress on Saturday came down heavily on ruling Aam Admi Party (AAP) on Saturday over purchasing e-buses on higher rates, lapse of Rs 40 crore allotted by Union government and providing benefits to private companies.
Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken alleged that in an affidavit to Supreme Court, Delhi government has mentioned that they need funds to buy 1,000 e-buses and pegged Rs 2.25 crore for each bus, however, the cap, fixed by the union government is between Rs 75 lakh to 1.75 crore. “The e-buses purchased by the Karnataka government for Bangalore is Rs 1.25 crore each but the AAP government has pegged it Rs 2.25 crore each e-bus. It is an exclamatory jump and daily commuters would bear the brunt.”
He further alleged, due to the delay in tendering process of e-buses, the state government has lapsed Rs 40 crore subsidy fund allotted by the Union government to purchase e-buses.
Owing to the high traffic on the public transport, Delhi government proposed to buy 1,000 e-buses and sought funds for it. Later, the government floated tender, however, no bidder had shown any interest in it.
Showing documents of his claims Delhi Congress Chief Ajay Maken said, “To provide benefits to the transport companies, the AAP government has pegged Rs 55 per km for service provider, which is between Rs 25 to 35 in Bangalore and Hyderabad.”
“Chief Minister should reply why they are buying e-buses on higher rate and why Rs 40 crore fund lapsed because of their carelessness,” Maken asserted.
