National News (23 June 2026): Tata Electronics, the electronics manufacturing arm of the Tata Group, is investigating a recently reported cybersecurity incident amid claims that confidential data linked to global technology giants Apple and Tesla may have been compromised.

The company confirmed that it had detected a cybersecurity-related event affecting certain systems. However, Tata Electronics emphasized that the incident has not impacted its manufacturing operations or business activities, which continue to function normally. A detailed investigation is currently underway.

According to cybersecurity researchers, a ransomware group known as World Leaks has claimed responsibility for publishing nearly 200,000 files on the dark web, amounting to more than 630 GB of data. The group alleges that the leaked documents contain component designs, technical specifications, factory records, and other sensitive information associated with Apple and Tesla. The authenticity of these claims and the leaked files has not yet been independently verified.

Reports suggest that the allegedly leaked data includes documents related to iPhone circuit board quality testing, factory records, and files linked to Tata Electronics’ iPhone assembly facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. The hackers have also claimed possession of Tesla-related documents, including engineering drawings and charging system details for the Model Y and Model 3 vehicles. Some of the files are reportedly marked as “Confidential” and “Trade Secret.”

Media reports further indicate that a ransom demand may have been made following the alleged cyberattack. However, Tata Electronics has not issued any official statement regarding such claims.

Meanwhile, Apple is also said to be examining the matter closely. The incident comes at a crucial time when India is rapidly emerging as a global electronics manufacturing hub, with Tata Electronics handling nearly one-third of Apple’s iPhone production in the country.

If confirmed, the breach could raise fresh concerns about cybersecurity risks across global supply chains and highlight the growing importance of protecting sensitive industrial and technological data in an increasingly interconnected manufacturing ecosystem.
