Jammu (Jammu and Kashmir) July 7, 2020: With the holy month of Sawan starting from Monday, Jammu and Kashmir administration has also intensified its preparation for conduction the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage for a short period this year.

As per sources, the Yatra may be allowed to be undertaken by a very limited number of pilgrims, over a period of 15 to 20 days. While the Yatra would have initially resumed in June itself, the date for allowing pilgrims remains to be finalised even yet, owing to Covid-19 pandemic.

Sharing more details of the latest update, Jammu Municipal Corporation Mayor CM Gupta says, “Sanitisation work is being undertaken at Jammu base camp ‘yatri niwas’. Date of yatra has not been finalised yet. We’ll follow all guidelines that will be released by the government”.

It may be recalled that the Amarnath Yatra was also cut short last year after a government notification, ahead of scrapping of Article 370.

Traditionally, the annual pilgrimage begins few weeks before the Hindu calendar month of ‘sawan’ and culminates on the day of Rakshabandhan, which is in the first week of August this year.
