Ambassador of #UAE unveiled ‘The Downturn’, the first book based in the real estate sector
This is author / journalist Varun Soni’s first fiction and is based on real life experiences.
New Delhi, November 07, 2013: The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), H.E. Mohamed Sultan Abdalla Al Owais today unveiled the first fiction based in the real estate sector titled ‘The Downturn’, penned by noted journalist and author, Varun Soni at a glittering evening here today.
The book was unveiled amidst an eclectic gathering comprising diplomats and social celebrities at the upmarket Asian eatery, Nom Nom, located at Hotel Ashok, Chanakyapuri.
Based on real life experiences, ‘The Downturn’ is author Varun Soni’s first fiction. He has earlier brought out two Coffee Table Books titled ‘Living in India’ and ‘Luxury Resorts and Spas of India’.
‘The Downturn’ is the journey of a media professional, Promit Bora, who enters the real estate sector owing to the lure of gold. However, as luck would have it, as soon as he takes up the assignment, the world economy goes into a spin and he is caught in the economic downturn.
Unveiling the book, H.E. the Ambassador of the UAE, said: “I am greatly pleased to unveil Varun Soni’s new book. It is a delight to read the book, the first such fiction to have been written in the backdrop of the Indian real estate sector.”

The book has been written in simple and lucid language and the author has kept to the point and not transgressed into soliloquy’s or extensive descriptions that sometimes digress from the main plot.

Synopsis
Promit Bora was a name to reckon with in the real estate sector, a beat that he had become synonymous with for close to eight years. To an outsider his life as a successful journalist was one of envy – enjoying countless bylines, attention from the business community and a job with the largest business newspaper.
But despite all the glitz, the glamour and the recognition, his salary sucked. He longed to relish the extravaganza that increased moolah would bring.
When an attractive offer from BDB Infrastructure came his way he couldn’t resist the lure of the lucre and agreed to head its Corporate Communications Department. He thought that as a journalist he had seen it all but little did he know what was in store for him.
As fate would have it, as soon as Promit joined BDB, the economy nosedived and BDB went into a spin. What followed was a series of incredible twists and turns which often caught the owners of BDB with their pants down and which sucked Promit into the vortex of it all.

About the Author
Varun Soni has always had an impassioned relationship with the written word. Whether it is short stories, news articles, research-based pieces or books – Varun has tried his hand at every aspect of writing, displaying his skills to the fullest. A postgraduate in English Literature, he has been born, brought up and educated in Delhi.
Starting his career with Media Transasia, a leading publishing house, in 1995, he contributed largely to the various magazines there. After a stint of nearly two years, he shifted to the Press Trust of India, the foremost of India’s news agencies, and honed his reporting skills. His love for writing exciting features drew him to The Hindustan Times and then to the Indian Express Group, where he has written on a variety of subjects from Interiors, Real Estate, Education, Human Resources and Corporate Strategies.
He forayed into book writing in six years ago with his first book ‘Living in India: Lives in Style’, a peek into 50 odd celebrity and aesthetically designed homes from across the country.
