New Delhi, 05th June 2023: Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a late-night meeting with the protesting wrestlers in the country’s capital on Sunday.
The meeting, reported to have lasted for more than 2 hours, marked the presence of Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia, Sakshi Malik, Sangita Phogat and Satyawart Kadian, and several coaches.
The minister reportedly urged the wrestlers to be patient and let law take its course, as he assured them that the law remains the same for everyone.
Sources say the protesting wrestlers had sought a meeting with Minister Shah after their five-day deadline for action against the wrestling federation chief ended on Saturday. They had demanded for an impartial probe and quick action against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh – who has been accused of sexual harassment by seven female wrestlers, including a minor.
The wrestlers have also complained that their protests have largely been ignored.
The athletes had also decided to immerse their medals in the holy river of Ganges after the Delhi Police accused the protesting wrestlers of rioting during their protest march to the new parliament, saying they broke the law in a frenzy despite repeated requests and had detained them.
