Anna Hazare writes scathing letter, critcises Kejriwal government over liquor policy

New Delhi, 30 August 2022: Social activist Anna Hazare, in a scathing letter to Delhi Chief Minister, criticised the Delhi Government’s leadership over the alleged corruption charges in the excise policy.

In the letter, Hazare stated that after becoming the Chief Minister, Kejriwal has gotten rid of his ideals, principles and is now “drunk on power.”

“The excise policy of the Delhi government indicates that, the (political) party which was formed at the cost of the historic movement, is also walking the same path being taken by other parties. It is very sad,” stated Anna Hazara, former close confidante of CM Kejriwal.

Hazare said that he played a major role in the prohibition in Ralegan Siddhi and campaigned vigorously for the excise coverage in Maharashtra which caused the improvement of a prohibition regulation. The regulation included prohibition of the sale of liquor in a village if 51% ladies of the village vote in opposition to sale of liquor.

He also claimed that the Delhi government no longer behaves like a political party that has emerged out of a significant movement,“a comparable coverage was expected from the Delhi government. But you probably no longer do that. You additionally seem to have been caught in the vicious circle of money through power and power through money.”

He additionally stated that Kejriwal, who used to speak in favour of Lokpal and Lokayukta to control corruption withinside the country, seems to have forgotten Lokpal and Lokayukta after turning into the leader minister.

He also accused the Delhi Chief Minister of not even attempting to bring ‘a strong Lokayukta Act’ in the Delhi assembly rather his government has made the excise policy which will affect lives of hundreds including women. “It shows your double standards,” the letter concluded.
