NEW DELHI : Ajay Maken today held the Aam Aadmi Party Government in Delhi and the BJP Government at the Centre for the acute power and water shortage in Delhi. He said there are unregualated power cuts for many hours in Delhi and there was no water in many colonies in these peak summer days, putting the people to terrible discomfort. Shri Maken said the Delhi Government has not made any preparation to meet the peak power demands in summer, resulting in the present power crisis. Shri Maken said the water shortage in some parts of Delhi was so severe that according to a sting operation, the poor people living in the JJ Colony, Bawana are forced to buy water as there is no water supply through taps, nor the AAP Government has made any arrangement for water tankers. Maken said the DPCC has made many catchy slogans which will be carried by the Congress workers at the protest march about the total failure of the AAP and BJP Governments in tackling the power and water shortage, such as “Na half hai, na maff hai, sab kuch ho gaya saf hai”, “Bijli gul, paani bandh, vigyapan ka lo anand”, “Na bijli, na paani hai, Delli ki dukhad kahani hai”, “Bijli paani ka yeh khel, kejriwal ho gaya fail”, “Bijli paani ka hahakar vigyapan ki ye sarkar”, “Bijli pani ka bura haal, TV me chamke Kejriwal”. Ajay Maken said Delhi Chief Minister Shri Arvind Kejriwal had made a statement on May 22, 2016 that the Delhi Government would provide proper  compensation to  the consumers for the shortfall in power supply. Shri Maken reminded Shri Kejriwal that he had made a similar statement on June 17, 2015. According to the DERC website,  a draft notification for changes in the Delhi Electric Supply Code and Performance Standards to compensate consumers suffering on account power outages was issued by the DERC in June last  year. The last date for seeking the views of the people has been extended four times, but the final notification is yet to come.

Ajay Maken said the Kejriwal Government was directly responsible for the water crisis in Delhi. He said on the issue of the SYL Canal, Shri Kejriwal had filed an affidavit against it  to make it clear that he was playing Punjab politics while sitting in Delhi, whereas the Delhi Jal Board had earlier filed affidavits in favour of the SYL Canal. Shri Maken said    that   whereas Delhi was to get .20MAF water from SYL, at the same time, due to Kejriwal’s opposition to SYL, Delhi would get 100 times less water, meaning thereby that Delhi would get only .002MAF water. Shri Maken said that the Kejriwal Government had filed an affidavit on 22nd April, 2015 in Supreme Court in connection with the SYL in which it has been mentioned that all the other affidavits given on this issue stand cancelled. It was also mentioned in this affidavit that the Delhi Government has nothing to do with the SYL issue as this issue is between the Punjab and Haryana Governments. Shri Maken said that by giving the above-mentioned affidavit, the Kejriwal Government has lost a golden opportunity to get 1.20 lakh cusecs of water. He said that Kejriwal has deceived the people of Delhi to achieve his personal ambition.
