New Delhi (09/08/2025): Assam’s rich weaving traditions took centre stage at the India International Handwoven Expo 2025, held from 7–9 August at Bharat Mandapam and organised by the Handloom Export Promotion Council under the Ministry of Textiles. Coinciding with National Handloom Day, the event brought together over 200 exhibitors and more than 100 overseas buyers, creating a vibrant platform for cultural exchange and trade.

An Assamese artisan’s (Sristi by Mondira Assam) stall stood out for its intricate cotton and silk sarees, cushion covers, and handcrafted furnishing items. “Many buyers are visiting and showing great interest in our products. We’ve received promising queries, and I’m hopeful they will translate into orders that support us in the future,” the artisan shared.

The showcase drew attention for blending traditional motifs with contemporary aesthetics, highlighting Assam’s significant contribution to India’s diverse handloom landscape. With global buyers seeking unique handmade products, the expo reinforced India’s reputation as a leader in the handloom sector and strengthened the link between local artisans and international markets.
