India, January 24: Election Commission of India on Saturday launched a ‘Know Your Candidate (KYC)’ app to ensure voters in poll bound states make informed choices.
This app will make the voters informed in regard to the candidate’s affidavit, criminal antecedents of candidates, if any, in an easy & accessible manner.
Voters will be able to browse candidates and view their details including affidavits provided by the candidates to the returning officer during nomination. Candidates affidavit will disclose education qualifications, assets and liabilities.
The motive is to bring forth the candidates’ profiles to the voters so that they can make informed decisions, thus ensuring transparent elections.
Voters can download the app from the Google play store and Apple store and also find the link for it on ECI’s website.
Assembly elections will be held in five states
Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Manipur & Uttarakhand.
The five states will vote over seven phases starting February 10, with the counting of votes scheduled for March 10.
