At e4m’s NewsNext conference, industry veterans discuss growing crisis in today’s journalism

In a panel discussion on “crisis in today’s journalism” during Exchane4Media’s NewsNext conference, the veteran leaders from the industry discussed everything that’s wrong with journalism today including deteriorating content quality, low pay and flawed rating system.

Rishabh Gulati, managing editor of NewsX pointed out how politicians try to create controversies to stay relevant, “they will say obnoxious things and journalists will spend hours debating on that.” He said a journalist needs to be mindful of whether or not the controversy deserves his / her attention.

Bhuvan Lall, author and filmmaker spoke of how anchors are turning into politicians with an agenda. “Anchors are no longer journalists, they are politicians as they are now taking positions.”

The panel was of the view that instead of downright rejecting all the channels, the channels who are serving good quality news content should be appreciated and rewarded appropriately.

The NewsNext conference will be followed by 14th edition of the exchange4media News Broadcasting Awards (enba) in the evening. Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Thakur will be the chief guest at the event.
