Atrocities on Women and Children have increased during Covid crisis: Dnyaneshwar Mulay, Member, NHRC

While speaking to Dr. Siddharth Gupta on Ten News Live, Dnyaneshwar Mulay, Member, NHRC and Ex-secretary, MEA said that atrocities on women and abuse of children have increased during the times of Covid and so even though there are 14 Corona cases at NHRC’s office, the office has been still up and running and is keeping a close watch on the violation of human rights.

While referring to the migrants crisis and a number of girls recently getting infected with coronavirus at a orphanage in UP, he said that the commission has issued notices to state govt, central govt and district authorities regarding these issues and the commission is ensuring that justice is delivered either in terms of compensation or punishment to those who have violated the right.

“We get about 1 lakh complaints every year and approx 80,000 cases are resolved every year.”

On the economic relief package by the government, he said that there is focus on agriculture – contract farming has been allowed and now farmer will be able to sell their produce anywhere in the country or abroad.

“Though there has to be a phase of good implementation, our problems come not from the policies but from their implementation.”
