Auto driver dies in accident while attempting to flee from custody

New Delhi, 6 November 2022: In North Delhi’s Civil Lines, an autorickshaw driver was killed in a traffic collision in an attempt to flee from the police on Saturday night.

After a 40-year-old woman claimed that Rahul had harassed her, the police were contacted and he was brought in. He attempted to flee but was struck by a light motor vehicle (LMV) and later died from his wounds, according to the police. According to them, the LMV’s unidentified driver has also been charged with causing a fatality through reckless or negligent driving.

The woman complained at the Civil Lines police station and reported being groped when the car’s driver was outside the Metro station. She went to the Metro station with two officers, where they located the autorickshaw driver.

The man was found drunk, according to Sagar Singh Kalsi, DCP (North). They requested that he visit the police station. The woman grew hostile to him as he was parking his autorickshaw after arriving at the police station. They made an effort to calm her down. The man attempted to leave the gate itself in the interim. He was struck by an unknown vehicle during the procedure. The individual was transferred to a hospital, where he passed away while receiving care, and the DCP continued.

While the deceased driver’s relatives protested in front of the police station and demanded to speak with the woman complainant. After the personnel intervened, they left after spending three to four hours there. We asked them to leave and return at ten in the morning. Their allegations will be taken seriously, an officer assured.

The autorickshaw driver was reportedly booked under IPC for assault on a woman with the purpose to outrage modesty and an act intended to insult modesty.
