Kolkata (West Bengal), 17th May 2023: The death toll from Medinipur’s West Bengal firecracker factory blast has now risen to 9 people.
Several other people have been injured from the blast that occured in an illegal firecracker factory in the region. The state government has deployed a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) team to probe the matter further.
The East Medinipur Superintendent of Police, Amarnath K, added that efforts are underway to ascertain if there are any other casualties to be counted. There are two people who are seriously injured and undergoing treatment in Kolkata.
State CM Mamta Banerjee has announced a compensation of Rs. 2.5 lakh for the kin of the deceased people and Rs. 1 lakh for the injured.
The betting factory was earlier raided in the past, but the accused, identified as Krishnapada Bagh, kept running the centre.
