Big announcement by Swaraj India: Candidate application for MCD polls to close by March 14

In a surprising announcement, Swaraj India today said that the party will accept applications from candidates for the upcoming MCD elections only till 5 pm of 14th March, 2017. At a time when the BJP & Congress have not even started announcing it’s candidates, the Swaraj India is all set to close its candidate selection process.  Right from candidate selection mechanism to a well thought out Vision Document, Swaraj India has been ahead of all other parties and is taking every step for a new politics that the party stands for.

Swaraj India has as of now declared names of 96 candidates in the three lists released so far. For the remaining wards, the process of accepting applications will be closed on March 14th, 2017 at 5 pm. Swaraj India is contesting on all 272 seats in Delhi.

Any citizen of Delhi can apply to become Swaraj India’s candidate for the upcoming polls. The party, through these elections, is laying special emphasis on increasing participation of youth and women in politics. Even in the three lists of candidates, Swaraj India has given special preference to women and youth with a surprisingly low average age.

Swaraj India has set up three separate screening committees for the three municipal corporations. The screening committee recommends names to the selection committee after preliminary screening of candidates. Apart from this, an independent Integrity Committee headed Anjali Bharadwaj has also been constituted, which is empowered to make a final decision on any kind of complaint against the candidates.

Recently, Swaraj India has released “Saaf Dil, Saaf Dilli”,  the party’s vision for Municipal Governance. The party has highlighted ‘environment and sanitation’ as it’s main agenda for the MCD elections in Delhi. Through its Vision Document, Swaraj India has come up with an action plan for a garbage-free Delhi, epidemic-free Delhi and pollution-free Delhi action plan.

Commenting on the election results of Punjab, Swaraj India Chief National Spokesperson Anupam said, “The state of Punjab which had welcomed the Aam Aadmi Party despite a strong Modi wave in 2014 has given a befitting reply to it for abandoning it’s principles. Though the AAP has been shamelessly spending crores of public money on advertisements in TV & newspapers, the common people will punish the party for cheating Delhi.”
