New Delhi, 11th June 2023: The Indian Meteorological Department authorities today confirmed that the very severe cyclonic storm Biparjoy has now intensified into an “extremely severe cyclonic storm.”

The cyclone will likely move northwards and reach Pakistan and adjoin the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts on June 15. Gujarat will have thunderstorm activity during the next five days, with wind speeds staying high, particularly in the Saurashtra-Kutch region.

The authorities also warned that sea conditions along and off the shores of Saurashtra and Kutch would likely be “rough to very rough” till Wednesday and very rough to high on Thursday.

The International Maritime Department has recommended that fishermen not enter the seas off the coasts of Gujarat, Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep.

For the past week, all Indian Coast Guard coastal installations have hosted regular community engagements with fishermen while the tropical cyclone builds over the Arabian Sea.

Tithal Beach, a major tourist spot on the Arabian Sea coast of Gujarat, has been temporarily restricted to visitors due to heavy waves and strong winds.
