BJP criticises Mann govt over Punjab blasts, making ‘irresponsible statements’

Chandigarh, May 6 (IANS) The BJP on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on the AAP-led Punjab government over the recent blasts in the state, accusing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann of making “irresponsible statements” by blaming the BJP and failing to maintain law and order.

Reacting to the blasts reported from Amritsar and Jalandhar, Punjab BJP Vice President, Fatehjang Singh Bajwa, told IANS that the Chief Minister’s remarks alleging the BJP’s involvement in the blasts were “unbecoming of a responsible leader”.

“I want to say that the way he is giving statements, claiming that the BJP is behind the blasts, is shocking. You are the Chief Minister and also the Home Minister. Why don’t you bring the truth before the people?” Bajwa said.

He further questioned the state government’s response to the recent incidents. “Making such statements does not suit a good politician. In the past week, there have been three blasts — first in Rajpura, then Jalandhar, and now Amritsar. What is the government doing? What is the police doing?” he added.

Echoing similar concerns, BJP National Spokesperson Jaiveer Shergill termed the incidents “a matter of grave concern” and accused the ruling party of pushing Punjab towards instability.

“The truth is that the AAP government has completely destroyed the peace and happiness of Punjab. These blasts are a direct result of its failures. The state is once again being pushed towards a dark era,” Shergill told IANS.

He also criticised the Chief Minister for blaming the BJP, calling it “cheap politics.” “Bhagwant Mann’s allegations against the BJP are proof of the kind of politics the AAP is indulging in. By blaming the BJP, the Mann government is providing cover fire to gangsters,” Shergill alleged.

Referring to the broader law and order situation, Shergill claimed that even Punjab Police officials are under threat. “Due to the failure and helplessness of the AAP government, officers of the Punjab Police have come under the radar of gangsters and terrorists. How many more grenades will be hurled; how many more murders and blasts will take place before the government wakes up?” he asked.

The recent blast incidents have triggered political sparring in the state, with Opposition parties questioning the government’s handling of internal security and law enforcement.

Meanwhile, security agencies are continuing their investigation into the explosions reported in Punjab.
