New Delhi, 8 May 2022: The Central Sanskrit University is organizing the Utkarsh Mahotsav from 7 May to 9 May in New Delhi, with emphasis on the Global Orientation of Sanskrit Studies in the New Educational Era.
The 2nd day of the event was graced by the presence of Murli Manohar Joshi, Senior BJP Leader, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal, Former Education Minister, Prof. Rajaneesh kumar Shukla, Vice Chancellor, Mahatma Gandhi Antarrashtriya Hindi Vishw Vidyalaya, Wardha, Prof. Srinivasa Varakhedi, Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Prof. Murli Manohar Pathak, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi, Prof. Radhakant Thakur, National Sanskrit University, Tirupati among other eminent personalities.
During the day-2 of the event, several women Sanskrit scholars discussed the participation of women in learning Sanskrit literature. They stated that since ancient times, women have been interested in learning Sanskrit Sahitya, although they were separately taught in a different gurukul.
In his address, Murli Manohar Joshi said, “In the invitation, it is written ‘Global Orientation of Sanskrit Studies’, But the orientation of Sanskrit took place thousands of years ago. If it was not the case, the west would not call us.”
“When the world did not know about science, our scholars were way ahead in scientific research. These talks about Orientation offend me,” he added.
“Sanskrit is an ancient language and it is still in existence while for English if it was not for the colonies, it would have perished being the language of a small island,” the scholars said.
Former Education Minister, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal, in his address said, “We leave it up to the government to promote Sanskrit. But we ourselves have to take the initiative to recognise Sanskrit, only then the government will be encouraged to do something. I am sure once everyone stands together, no one can stop India from becoming a superpower.”
“In the National Education Policy, Sanskrit has been given a special focus and employment opportunities are also integrated. If Sanskrit is the oldest and strongest scientific language, and if Sanskrit students are brightest, why would we not support it,” Pokhriyal said.
