New Delhi, December 27, 2022: Seems like fight for a grip over Delhi MCD is yet to be decided event after AAP won majority of councillor posts in the capital.
Refusing to give AAP an easy run, BJP has decided to field it’s Mayor candidates to bid for Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) offices.
Rekha Gupta, a Shalimar Bagh-based BJP councillor, has been chosen to run for mayor, and Kamal Bagri, a candidate from the Ram Nagar ward, will run for deputy mayor.
The AAP, which now has the most council members in the civic body, has declared Aale Mohammad Iqbal as its candidate for deputy mayor and Shelly Oberoi as its candidate for mayor. Iqbal is a councillor from Chandani Mahal, while Oberoi is from East Patel Nagar.
“Now let’s choose a mayor for Delhi. It will all rely on who can maintain a majority in a tight race, how the nominated council members vote, etc. For instance, Chandigarh has a BJP mayor,” BJP leader said.
