BJP suspends Jharkhand leader over allegations of brutal torture of domestic worker

Jharkhand, August 31th, 2022: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday, suspended its leader Seema Patra from the party after allegations emerged against her that she had brutally tortured and inhumanely treated her domestic worker.

Patra is part of the national working committee of the BJP’s women’s wing. Her husband, Maheshwar Patra, is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer.

She was also the state convener of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao campaign.

In several videos that emerged online, the 29-year-old worker, Sunita, narrates with horror from a hospital bed that she was beaten up with a hot pan and rods, and was made to lick urine off the floor.

There are visible injuries on her body, smashed teeth, and appears unable to even sit straight.

While narrating the incidents, Sunita in a distressed state mentions that Patra’s son, Ayushman had eventually come to her rescue and she owes her life to him.

The videos have triggered several angry reactions from across the country and people have demanded her immediate arrest.
BJP President in Jharkhand, Deepak Prakash has announced urgent action against her as well.

Sunita is currently under treatment at a hospital in Ranchi. The state police is expected to soon record Patra’s statement following which they may move to arrest her.
