BJP’s central govt providing an escape route to Mr BS Bassi by allowing him to retire

> BJP’s central government should immediately remove the Delhi Police Commissioner Mr BS Bassi from his post following the extremely shocking findings of the National Human Rights Commission about the Delhi Police in the Patiala House Court and JNU campus incidents.
>
>
> The Aam Aadmi Party is of the firm view that by merely dropping Mr Bassi’s name from the list of Information Commissioners at the Central Information Commission, which the BJP’s central government had kept for him in the form of a post retirement award, it has actually given him an escape route to hide his shameful tenure.
>
> NHRC findings about the arrest of JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar and violence at the Patiala House Court premises completely nail all the lies of Mr Bassi and police officers of the New Delhi range.
>
>
> Along with Mr Bassi, all officers of Delhi Police of the New Delhi range, should also be placed under immediate suspension.
>
>
> NHRC report of 19th February states :“The statement which was issued by the police as an appeal on behalf of Sh. Kanhaiya Kumar was not written by him voluntarily. The content, construction and framework of the statement were as dictated by the police.”
>
>
> Further exposing Mr Bassi, the NHRC report states :“Sh. Kanhaiya Kumar was abused and physically assaulted by some persons dressed as advocates in the Patiala House court premises on 17.02.2016. He was even physically assaulted inside the adjoining court room in the presence of police who did not do anything to prevent the assault or apprehend the attackers even though they were identified by Sh. Kanhaiya Kumar then and there. The physical assault on Sh. Kumar in the court premises appears to be organized and pre- planned. What happened in the Patiala House Court Complex on 17.02.2016 was a major security lapse on the part of the police. There was serious dereliction of duty on the part of the police.”
>
>
> The JNU and Patiala House Court incidents are only the latest additions in the shameful track record of Mr Bassi as Delhi Police Commissioner.
>
> The BJP’s central government by allowing him to retire is returning him the favour for having toed its line of carrying out its unlawful instructions to trouble the people of Delhi and their elected government.
>
>
> The main question that the BJP’s central government must answer is who will take responsibility for Mr Bassi’s actions during his tenure as Delhi Police chief ?
>
>
> Some of the shameful acts he presided over as Delhi Police chief include :
>
> · 30 Jan 2016 : Delhi Police brutally beat up students including girls who were peacefully protesting outside RSS headquarters at Jhandewalan against the suicide of Rohith Vemula. Even RSS workers had joined the police in beating up students.
>
> · 26 Oct 2015 : Delhi Police raided Kerala House over the false pretext of beef being served there. Later the police allegation was found to be completely false.
>
> · 7 Sep : Delhi Police killed a 35 year-old youth Shahnawaz, in its custody at Nandnagri. In December, Delhi High Court ordered a CBI inquiry in this case.
>
> · 21 July : Police unleashed a reign of terror on young boys and girls who protested against the brutal murder of 19 year-old Meenakshi at Anand Parbat.
>
> · 15 May : Special Cell of Delhi Police shot at and killed a youth in a fake encounter at a crowded restaurant in Rajinder Nagar. When questions were raised all officers involved in the encounter were quietly transferred by the top brass of the Delhi Police.
>
> Given the highly dubious track record of Mr Bassi, which has been totally exposed by the NHRC at its fag end, the BJP’s central government should place him under suspension and order an impartial probe into his tenure.
