BL Agro’s ₹1,500 Crore Dairy Bet: The Bigger Plan Is Taking Shape in Bareilly

Bareilly News (15 September 2026): BL Agro has announced an investment of ₹1,500 crore through its biotechnology subsidiary Leads Genetics to build an integrated dairy and genetics ecosystem in India. The initiative aims to bring cattle breeding, reproductive technologies, animal health, nutrition, milk production and market linkages under a 360-degree circular economy model.

The company is in discussions with Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh to replicate the model across states. The proposed ecosystem will include an integrated Breed Improvement Farm, IVF-ET Laboratory, Multiple Ovulation Embryo Transfer (MOET), Pathology Laboratory and Genomics Laboratory. The announcement was made during the two-day Cattle Genomics Summit 2026 in Bareilly.

The summit brought together scientists, breeders, researchers and industry stakeholders to showcase advancements in genomics, IVF, advanced sequencing and data-driven breeding. The event also marked the arrival of the first Zebu-optimised bovine SNP chip at Leads Genetics and a live demonstration of next-generation sequencing on the Illumina NovaSeq X platform.

According to the company, the genomic chip will help identify animals with stronger genetic potential for milk production, fertility, growth, health, heat tolerance and resistance to ticks and parasites. Combined with IVF, embryo transfer and sex-sorted semen, the technology is expected to accelerate the multiplication and dissemination of superior genetics while strengthening indigenous cattle breeds.

BL Agro Chairman Dr. Ghanshyam Khandelwal said farmers remain at the heart of the company’s 360-degree model. He added that genetically selected cows are expected to produce high-quality milk, with an average yield of 40–60 litres per cow per day, potentially creating additional income opportunities for farmers.

Leads Genetics’ Head of IVF-MOET, Dr. Sarvannan Durairaj, said the company is targeting production of 15,000 embryos per month by the end of 2027 at its Centre of Excellence in Bareilly.
