Boy hangs self during video chat, girlfriend watches in horror

Was upset after failing to crack CA intermediate examination Depressed over academic failure, a 25-year-old CA aspirant on Monday allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Indirapuram even as his girlfriend purportedly remained a helpless spectator to his extreme step on video chat. In the conversation which preceded the alleged suicide, deceased Rishabh Rai had shared that he was upset because he had failed to crack the CA intermediate examination, said Ghaziabad Superintendent of Police (City) Salmantaj Patil. The police, however, are also probing if the suicide had any personal angle. Rishabh’s flatmate had made a call to the police informing about the suicide on Monday morning. He was alarmed when Rishabh’s US-based elder brother told him that the latter was not answering his calls. When the flatmate went to Rishabh’s room to check, he found it locked from inside. He knocked on the door and when Rishabh did not respond, the flatmate peeped into the room through a cavity and saw that Rishabh was hanging from a ceiling fan. A police team reached the spot and took the body to a hospital where he was declared brought dead, said a police officer. However, when the police team looked around, it found Rishabh’s mobile phone on the study table with a front camera on and at an angle that was capturing the ceiling fan and the body hanging from it. He hadn’t left any note. “We found that a video call was made to a caller using a free video chat app.

The call was made to his girlfriend,” said Sunil Negi, an investigating officer. Mr. Patil added that the girlfriend had sensed his intentions as he sounded depressed but before she could raise an alarm, he had proceeded towards the fan leaving her in a state of shock. Buxar resident Rishabh was staying in a rented accommodation in Gyan Khand locality of Indirapuram. According to the police, he was preparing for his CA examination and was attending a coaching Centre in the Capital. He was last seen alive on Sunday night when he finished his dinner and left for his room, roommates have told the police. Rishabh’s phone had its front camera on and was kept at an angle that captured the fan and the body hanging from it. .
