In a landmark move that has been hailed as a game-changer for India’s education sector, the Union Budget 2025-26 has unveiled a series of progressive initiatives aimed at transforming the nation into a global knowledge superpower. Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, CEO of Galgotias University, expressed his heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the education community and the youth of India, calling it a visionary step toward achieving the dream of Vishwaguru.

With an allocation of ₹128,650 crore to the Ministry of Education—a substantial increase from the revised estimates of 2024-25—this budget underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening both school and higher education systems. The emphasis on accessibility, equity, and quality reflects a deep understanding of education’s pivotal role in nation-building and economic growth.

Key Highlights and Their Impact

1. School Education & Literacy (₹78,572 crore)

The 16% increase in funding for school education is a commendable step toward achieving universal quality education. Key initiatives include:

  • Samagra Shiksha Expansion (₹41,250 crore): This flagship program aims to enhance infrastructure and improve learning outcomes across government schools.
  • PM POSHAN (₹12,500 crore): The mid-day meal scheme continues to ensure nutritional support for students, fostering better attendance and retention rates.
  • PM Schools for Rising India (PM SHRI) (₹7,500 crore): These model schools will serve as benchmarks for excellence in education.
  • Atal Tinkering Labs: The establishment of 50,000 labs over the next five years will foster innovation and scientific temper among students, preparing them for future challenges.

Dr. Galgotia lauded these measures, stating, “These initiatives are not just investments in infrastructure but also in nurturing young minds to think critically and creatively.”

2. Higher Education (₹50,078 crore)

Higher education has received a significant boost with a 7.74% increase in funding. Notable highlights include:

  • Expansion of Medical Seats: The addition of 10,000 medical seats addresses the growing demand for healthcare professionals.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades in IITs: Five premier institutions will see enhanced facilities to accommodate more students and research activities.
  • PM Research Fellowship Scheme: With 10,000 fellowships dedicated to technological research, this initiative will strengthen India’s research ecosystem and drive innovation.

Dr. Galgotia noted, “This focus on higher education and research aligns perfectly with the aspirations of our youth and the demands of a rapidly evolving global economy.”

3. Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation

A standout feature of the budget is the allocation of ₹500 crore for the Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence for Education. This initiative aims to revolutionize teaching methodologies by making them more interactive and personalized. Additionally, the Bharatiya Bhasha Pustak Scheme seeks to provide digital books in Indian languages, bridging the language barrier and promoting inclusivity.

Galgotias University itself has taken strides in this direction, investing ₹200 crore in a state-of-the-art AI and machine learning building—one of its kind in the country. Dr. Galgotia remarked, “This synergy between policy and institutional efforts will position India at the forefront of the global AI revolution.”

4. Skilling and Employability

To address the employability gap, the government plans to establish five National Centres of Excellence for skilling through global partnerships. Aligned with the “Make for India, Make for the World” vision, these centers will equip students with skills tailored to meet international standards.

“This initiative is a game-changer,” said Dr. Galgotia. “It ensures that our youth are not only job-ready but also capable of competing on a global scale.”

5. Ease of Access to Education

Recognizing the aspirations of students pursuing education abroad, the budget raises the threshold limit for Tax Collected at Source (TCS) on remittances under the Liberal Remittance Scheme (LRS) from ₹7 lakh to ₹10 lakh. Furthermore, the removal of TCS on education loans eases the financial burden on families.

“These measures demonstrate the government’s sensitivity to the dreams and ambitions of Indian students,” added Dr. Galgotia.

A Vision for the Future

The Budget 2025-26 seamlessly aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, emphasizing holistic development, innovation, and inclusivity. By focusing on creating world-class institutions, promoting research, and fostering creativity, the budget empowers India’s youth to become global leaders.

The BharatNet project, which aims to provide broadband connectivity to all government secondary schools and primary health centers, further bridges the digital divide. “This ensures that no child is left behind, regardless of their geographical location,” said Dr. Galgotia.

For Dr. Dhruv Galgotia, the Budget 2025-26 is more than just a financial document—it is a blueprint for India’s future. It reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to nurturing an educated, skilled, and empowered India ready to lead the knowledge economy.

“I commend the Honourable Prime Minister and the Finance Minister for their visionary leadership,” concluded Dr. Galgotia. “This budget is a giant leap toward realizing the dream of an Atmanirbhar Bharat and a Vishwaguru.”

As India marches forward, this budget serves as a beacon of hope and opportunity, promising a brighter tomorrow for its youth and the nation at large.
