Burglary on #Holi

The house of an employee of The Hindu was burgled last week causing the family a loss of a few lakh rupees. The accused have not been arrested yet. The alleged burglars broke in when the family was away to celebrate Holi.

The victim, Jitendra Upadhyay, a sales executive in the circulation department in the newspaper’s Delhi office, says that the estimated loss is at least Rs. 4 lakh. The articles which went missing include gold and silver jewellery, designer watches and cameras.

According to the police complaint submitted by Mr. Upadhyay’s wife Poonam at the K.N. Katju Marg police station, when they returned from Ghaziabad on February 25, they found that one of the rooms had been ransacked and a safe in which they kept the valuables was broken. The family later found that the burglars had cut open a wire mesh to gain entry into the house. A case of trespass and burglary has been registered.
