Delhi, Sept 5th, 2022: Indian cricketer and bowler Arshdeep Singh received huge backlash and criticism after he dropped a catch in the Super Four Ind-Pak match held on Sunday in Dubai.

Pakistan won the match by five wickets on Sunday. Singh was the target of social media trolls and hate after he dropped the catch.

Things got out of hand when people edited Singh’s Wikipedia page, linking him to the separatist Khalistani movement.

According to the edit history of the page, an unregistered user replaced the word ‘India’ with ‘Khalistan’ in several locations, but these changes were undone by Wikipedia editors in 15 minutes.

The Ministry of Electronics & IT on Monday summoned Wikipedia executives to explain how fake information was published on Singh’s page.
A high-level panel is likely to question the executives and may even issue a show cause notice.

After Singh faced vicious attacks on social media, support from many leaders poured in from all around the country. They urged people to understand that mistakes are a part of life and Singh should not be targeted in such a manner.

Former Indian cricketer and Rajya Sabha MP Harbhajan Singh tweeted, “Stop criticizing young @arshdeepsinghh. No one drop the catch purposely.. we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD”.

Punjab Sports Minister Gurmeet Singh posted on Twitter, “Arshdeep performed excellently against Pakistan. Regressive psyche to troll him on the drop of just a catch. Arshdeep is the future of the Nation. Inspiration for youth. Hate has no place in sports”.

Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan said, “Arshdeep is a strong character. Stay that way boy”.
