New Delhi, May 16, 2022: The Senior Advocate and Chairman of All India Bar Association (AIBA), Dr Adish C Aggarwal has criticised Maharashtra Police for registering case against Marathi actress Ketaki Chitale.

The 29-year-old actress was arrested upon posting a derogatory post on social media against NCP President Sharad Pawar, which was initially posted by someone else.

Dr Aggarwal defended the actress stating that after the judgment in Shreya Shingal’s case, the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has stated that political leaders ought not take matters sensitively nor police should arrest immediately. There cannot be any severity of action prescribed against youngsters using social media, making irresponsible comments. The punishment cannot be greater than the offence, at best some action in the nature of a warning ought to have been given.

The case against the young Marathi Actress Ketaki Chitale appears to be more political than real, as per the notification. Dr Aggarwal said that the Maharashtra Police has acted hastily perhaps under political pressure. Additionally, the police had not registered any case against the main accused instead arrested the actress who merely forwarded the post.
