New Delhi, August 17, 2023: Chaos unfolded in the Delhi Assembly as a comment by a BJP MLA ignited a heated debate, leading to the ejection of four BJP MLAs from the proceedings.

The turmoil was sparked when a short duration discussion on the ongoing violence in Manipur was initiated by AAP’s Durgesh Pathak. Amidst the discussion, BJP legislators raised objections, insisting that the Assembly should focus solely on matters concerning Delhi.

Deputy Speaker Rakhi Birla raised concerns about the BJP’s reaction. “Do they feel that Manipur is not an issue to be discussed in the Assembly? The UP Assembly also discussed the Manipur issue,” she retorted.

BJP MLA Mohan Singh Bisht from Karaval Nagar belittled the significance of the Manipur issue, stating that the events in the state are inconsequential. Responding to this, the Deputy Speaker expressed her frustration, questioning the opposition’s engagement in the discussion regarding Delhi-related matters.

Despite efforts to ease the situation, the BJP MLAs remained adamant. Pathak expressed his disappointment at the BJP’s reluctance to engage in the discussion. He and AAP legislators chanted slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Subsequently, BJP’s Abhay Verma, Jitender Mahajan, Ajay Mahawar, and OP Sharma were escorted out of the Assembly.

The Manipur issue has reverberated through the ongoing monsoon session of parliament, prompting the Opposition to move a no-confidence motion against the government in hopes of compelling Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the matter.

However, during the session, the Prime Minister focused on the issue for only a brief period of time after the Opposition’s exit, which led to further critique and discussions surrounding the significance of the Manipur debate.
