CJI UU Lalit recommends DY Chandrachud as his successor

New Delhi, 11/10/2022: Incumbent Chief Justice of India, Uday Umesh Lalit is all set to retire on 8th November after a brief term.

Going with the tradition, he has recommended Justice DY Chandrachud as his successor. The norms of the Court state that the current CJI has to name the senior most judge as his successor. As the procedure goes, the Union Minister of Law and Justice writes to the current CJI to seek permission for the next.

Under the Article 124 of the Constitution, the President appoints a new CJI on the final recommendation of the current CJI. With Justice Chandrachud becoming the next CJI, the country is all set to witness the first time of history , a father son duo to be the chief judges.

Justice Chandrachud will be enjoying a tenure of 2 years.
